The 26th Annual Vanity Cup Walleye fishing tournament was held in Nipawin October 5th and 6th.

Teams from all over western Canada and the United States, some returning and many new, gathered to compete in one of North America’s richest walleye tournaments.

160 teams competed for cash and merchandise totalling more than $300,000. These teams pay a $2,000 per team entry fee to be a part of this prestigious fishing event, and to have the opportunity to fish for walleye domination of Tobin Lake.

 A total of 1263 walleye were weighed over the past 2 days. An increase of 364 over 2018. Total weight of the fish also increased by 897lbs over 2018 for a 2-day total of 4082 pounds of walleye.

Prizes were awarded for the top 10 teams each day. First prize each day was $5000 cash plus a Humminbird Helix 7 Fish Finder and second place each day was worth $4500.00.

Winners of the Day 1 prizes were Lyndon Hicks and Tony Lockyer of Yorkton, SK with a total weight of 33.89 pounds. Close behind were Colin MacDougall and Eric Orton of Kindersley, SK with 33.82 pounds.

Day 2 First place winners with their catch of 32.49 pounds were Cory Bjornson of Regina, SK and Michael Nelson of Prud Homme, SK. The team of Tom and Larry Johnston of Regina, SK won second place for Day 2 with the 5 walleye weighing a total of 31.69 pounds they hauled on Sunday.

10 fish totalling 62.84 pounds of walleye were good enough for Lyndon Hicks and Tony Lockyer to receive the overall 2-day total $100,000 in cash as the 2019 Vanity Cup’s Top Walleye Team.

Second overall place team David Shmyr and David Shmyr Jr. of Rycroft, AB won a Lund 1875 Impact Sport fishing boat for the 55.64 lbs. of walleye they brought in over the two days.

53.92 pounds of walleye caught by the Tom and Larry Johnston Team of Regina, who won a boat last year for 2nd place, won another boat for placing 3rd overall this year. This year they win a Lund 1750 Rebel XS SS.

The biggest walleye of day 1 was caught by Lyndon Hicks and tony Lockyer of Yorkton, SK. Their fish weighed in at 14.14 lbs. winning the Day 1 fish pool of $ 1,375.00.

The Big Fish prize of $1,375.00 for Day 2 went to Kevin and Kolby Matiachuk of Saskatoon and Dalmeny, SK. who brought in a walleye weighing in at 12.47 pounds.

Sean and Terry Hughes (S&T Energy Services Ltd) from Bonnyville, AB sponsor the top mixed team. Choiceland residents Dean and Shelly Paslawski won the $2000 for the top mixed team!
