The 25th Annual Vanity Cup Walleye fishing tournament committee
promised big fish, big money and big prizes September 29th and 30th and
Teams from all over western Canada and the United States, some
returning and some new, gathered in Nipawin, Saskatchewan to compete in
one of North America's richest walleye tournaments.
160 teams competed for cash and merchandise totalling more than
$300,000. These teams pay a $2,000 per team entry fee to be a part of
this prestigious fishing event, and to have the opportunity to fish for
walleye domination of Tobin Lake.
A total of 899 walleye were weighed in throughout the two day tournament that tipped the scales at a total of 3185 pounds.
Prizes were awarded for the top 10 teams each day. First prize each day
was $5000 cash plus a Humminbird Helix 7 Fish Finder and a MinnKota
Terrova trolling motor and second place each day was worth $4500.00.
Winners of the Day 1 prizes were Matt and Michelle Hrychuk of Nipawin,
SK with a total weight of 33.55 pounds. Second Place winners for Day 1
were Dale Kozak of Regina, SK and Brad Zimmer of Regina Beach, SK with
Day 2 First place winners were Curtis Fehr of White Fox and Logan
Bishop of Nipawin with 30.87 pounds. The team of Greg Kubel of
Edmonton, Ab and Curt Wright of Beaumont, AB won second place for Day 2
with the 5 walleye weighing a total of 29.51 pounds they hauled on
10 fish totalling 60.91 pounds of walleye were good enough for first
time tournament fisherman Curtis Fehr of White Fox, SK and first time
Vanity Cup participant Logan Bishop of Nipawin, SK to receive the
overall 2-day total $100,000 in cash as the 2018 Vanity Cup's Top
Second overall place team Tom Johnston and Larry Johnston of
Regina, SK won a Lund 1875 Impact Sport fishing boat for the 55.43 lbs.
of walleye they brought in over the two days.
Husband/wife team of Delvin and Linda Kushniryk reeled in 52.13 lbs. of
walleye to win the tournament's third place overall prize of a Lund
1750 Rebel XS SS.
The biggest walleye of day 1 was caught by Regina and Regina Beach, SK
team of Dale Kozak and Brad Zimmer. Their fish weighed in at 15.37 lbs.
winning the Day 1 fish pool of $ 1,375.00.
The Big Fish prize of $1,375.00 for Day 2 went to Steve Taylor of
Melfort and Jason Nelson of Moose Jaw, SK who brought in a walleye
weighing in at 13.06 pounds.
Sean and Terry Hughes (S&T Energy Services Ltd) from Bonnyville, AB
sponsor the top mixed team. Delvin and Linda Kushniryk won the $2000
for the top mixed team!
